1. got some decent shots of warpaint with my lil’ phone last night at the music box.  these girls make me want to quit my job and learn to actually play all the instruments i have.  i may or may not have a slight woman crush on them.  love.

  2. persona la ave, aka the lovely rachel levy and mister dylan dawkins, tore it up at silverlake’s tribal cafe on monday.  (click the pic for pics)

  3. last night i had the pleasure of making it to see toro y moi and caribou.  and let me just tell you, if ever there was a way to bring in the summer, it was this.

toro is fantastic when playing thru the speakers of your car or your speakers at home, but holy smokes, when you’re standing right in front of him the sound that he produces is filled with pure joy to the point of feeling like he’s just given you a happy pill that you can’t quite get enough of.  before you know it, you’re laughing and bouncing and everything seems right in the world.

and that was just the opening act.  i’ll be honest in saying that i hadn’t listened to a lot of caribou before last night.  that was a pretty big mistake i didn’t know i was making.  holy valentine these guys give one of the greatest live shows i’ve seen.  and i’ve never seen a drummer more otherworldly in my life.  if you want to have your mind and ears blown and have your body involuntarily move to the sweet beats these guys are creating, then you should probably start liking them.  just sayin’.

  4. i’ve been a fan of joshua james for quite some time now, and any chance i have to go see him play live, i take.  he played at the hotel cafe last week and i think it was the best show i’ve seen him play yet.  this is a video i took on my iphone of him playing two of my favorite songs of his.

    what a beautiful human being.
